The Scottish Women’s Premier League title race is as exciting as ever, and although Hearts’ men’s team lost out on the Scottish Premiership trophy to Celtic, the women’s side could make history this weekend.
The Jambos will take on Glasgow City on Sunday in their final home game of the season. Should they pick up three points in the difficult fixture, they will be crowned SWPL champions on the penultimate day of the season.
Anything less than a win and they will go into the final day of the season with Rangers hot on their trail. The last thing they’ll want to do is lose out on the league title now, so they need to finish the job against City.
| Place | Team | Games Played | Goal Difference | Points |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1st | Hearts | 26 | +56 | 61 |
| 2nd | Rangers | 26 | +53 | 57 |
| 3rd | Glasgow City | 26 | +45 | 54 |
As things stand, Hearts lead by four points. If Rangers were to win this weekend and Hearts were to lose, the Gers would go into the final day of the season just one point behind. If Hearts draw, it would be two points. Leanne Crichton will know that only a victory over rivals Celtic will do if they want to keep the pressure on.
Could Hearts make history in the SWPL?
Hearts could make history if they manage to win the league title, as it would be the first time that the women’s team have managed to do so. With manager Eva Olid departing at the end of the season, it would be an amazing send-off for her.
After the hurt of losing out on the men’s league title, Hearts fans will be hoping that they can end the campaign with at least one trophy across either game. Rangers will also be desperate to get their hands on it though, with them not having won the trophy since 2022.
Past SWPL winners and runners-up
| Season | Champions | Runners-up |
|---|---|---|
| 20/21 | Glasgow City | Celtic |
| 21/22 | Rangers | Glasgow City |
| 22/23 | Glasgow City | Celtic |
| 23/24 | Celtic | Rangers |

It is yet to be seen what ribbons will be on the trophy, but one thing is for sure: the SWPL title race is set to be just as exciting as the Scottish Premiership one.
