Celtic are set to ramp up their interest in Motherwell midfielder Elijah Just, with the Hoops eager to beat rivals Rangers to his signature.

The 26-year-old has been impressive for the Well this season. Under Jens Berthel Askou, who is in the running to be the next manager at Parkhead, he has caught the attention of a lot of clubs, with the two Glasgow sides keen on his services.

According to Football Insider, although Celtic want a new manager through the door before they do any work in the transfer market, they are preparing to make their move. They are trying to get themselves in a better position than the Gers, but the Ibrox side still stands a chance.

In the Scottish Premiership this season, Just made 43 appearances, with 38 of them being starts. He managed to find the net seven times, recording eight assists. With the Hoops pipping Hearts to the title on the final day of the campaign, they have put themselves in a prime position to attract domestic talent. Just fits the profile of player that the Celts are looking for, and he could be very interested in playing for the reigning champions.

Motherwell are open to selling Just

According to sources from around Scotland, Motherwell are happy to accept ‘big-money’ offers for Just. His transfer value is estimated at around £1.5 million, and the Fir Park side would likely be demanding a fee of around that number to sell to a domestic rival.

Motherwell believes that if they were to get a decent amount of money for Just, they could reinvest it into their squad and put themselves in an even better position. Although they will be delighted with where they finished in the league this season, they will be eager to push on, and the sale of such a talented player for a good fee could be the first step in that journey.

Whoever manages to get Just on their books will be getting a player with international experience. On Thursday, he was selected to represent New Zealand for the 2026 World Cup and became Motherwell’s first player to do so since Tommy Coyne in 1994. It’s going to be a massive summer for the midfielder, and he will likely attract foreign interest should he perform.

That could make things more difficult for any Scottish club interested, so it would be wise to act sooner rather than later if they want their man.
