12 players are set to depart St Mirren as they look to stay in the Scottish Premiership. A win over Partick Thistle in the play-off final would secure their place for next season, and a lot of work will be needed in the summer, no matter what happens.
Eight players will leave the club as things stand through contract expiration. Peter Urminsky, Mikeal Mandron, Scott Tanser, Oisin Smyth, Allan Campbell, Dan Nlundulu, Mark O’Hara and Jonah Ayunga are reaching the end of their deals.
If any contract extensions are offered, it certainly won’t be until after the play-off final. The club will be unlikely to hand out extended deals if they don’t know what division they will be playing in next season, so we don’t have a good idea yet of who will remain in the squad.
Supporters want to see some offers made
Fans on social media are keen on keeping a few players, with the notable loan names of George and Devaney being touted as good options. Some believe that Devaney will be aiming higher and won’t want a return to the Premiership, but George could be a realistic option.
George, on loan from Wycombe Wanderers, was not retained by his parent club and will be leaving the English side this summer. St Mirren could secure his services, or they could be beaten out by another Scottish team, with Aberdeen being noted as favourites for his signature.
Time will tell what will happen, but we’ll be able to get a decent idea of whether the Saints will retain their Premiership status with how the first leg of the play-off final goes on Thursday. The second leg will be played on Monday, May 25, so fans will likely have to wait until after then for any more player updates.
