Rangers are planning an incredible summer swoop for Hearts striker Lawrence Shankland, who they could reportedly land for £3 million.

According to SunSport, the Gers have the 30-year-old at the top of their list of transfer targets. Danny Rohl sees him as a viable option, and the move could happen as early as this week.

Shankland, who is a fan of the Ibrox side, could have signed for them last summer when he was set to be out of contract. Instead, he signed a three-year deal that will see him remain at Tynecastle until 2028, so Hearts would likely be demanding a major fee for his services.

With 16 goals in a great Scottish Premiership campaign for the Jambos, negotiations are reportedly ongoing between the two clubs. With Shankland being called up by Steve Clarke to represent Scotland at the World Cup, not only are they getting someone who is proven in the league, but someone who is trusted on the international stage.

It is an interesting move but not exactly unsurprising, with the Rangers chairman, Andrew Cavenagh, admitting that he wants Scottish players at the club. He said:

We have a pro-Scottish bias in the club today. Meaning, if you have two players roughly equal and one is Scottish then we will take the Scottish player.

According to rumours, Shankland may have a release clause in his contract that could make the deal cheaper for the Gers. It is said to be in the £3 million region, but some supporters aren’t delighted with the news.

One fan said:

Another supporter expressed their disappointment in Rangers missing out on the striker for free:

We will soon find out if negotiations will get over the line, but it seems likely. Shankland could come in and become the next Ibrox captain, with James Tavernier having departed the club. Time will tell, but this could prove to be a good signing for the Light Blues.

Is Shankland a good signing for Rangers?
