After losing out on the league title to Celtic, Hearts will be looking to bolster their options in the transfer market ahead of next season.
It was a long fight from the Jambos, but they ultimately fell short at Parkhead. Despite the defeat, they are now looking to rob one of the Glasgow sides, Rangers, of one of their players.
Gers centre-back Leon King is set to depart the club after 17 years. He has made 42 appearances for the first team over the years, but Sky Sports has revealed that he has not been offered a new contract.
He has found it difficult to break into the squad, and he is now set to play his football elsewhere. Hearts are one of the clubs interested, as they feel that he could help them going into the next campaign.
However, they won’t be without competition. Across the border, Watford and Millwall are keeping tabs on the defender. Millwall could be the appealing option out of the two for him, with them having managed to secure Premier League play-off football after finishing third in the English Championship. They will be looking to push on next season, and King could have a major part to play.
Hearts will also present their project to him. They will likely want to record good results in Europe, while also fighting for the Scottish Premiership title again. It’s yet to be seen whether they will achieve those goals, but the Gers man could be drawn by the promise of a title race and special nights at Tynecastle.
Leon King would be a no-brainer for Hearts
It seems like it’s all up to King, because Hearts would be silly not to ask the question. He is a young player leaving from a rival club, and if they’re serious about competing domestically, this is the type of business that they need to carry out.
Both Celtic and Rangers will be looking at domestic options too. Motherwell’s Elijah Just is on Celtic’s radar, with both clubs interested in Kilmarnock midfielder David Watson. This is the exact profile of player that the Jambos should be looking at.
