Celtic winger Yang has extended his stay at Parkhead until 2030 after a fantastic season in the hoops.

Although the winger has received a lot of criticism during his time in Glasgow, even as early as the start of the season, he has really managed to turn things around. He has gone from being an option that some fans would groan at if they saw him in the starting 11 to a player who is expected to play week in, week out.

He played a massive part in helping the Celts to their fifth consecutive Scottish Premiership title, which they secured with a 3-1 victory over Hearts on the final day of the season, and fans will hope that he can continue his good form going into Saturday’s Scottish Cup final and next season.

Yang spoke to Celtic TV after signing his new deal. He said:

I’m so happy to sign the new contract. I love this club and my future is here. I’m happy, and though the season was a little bit hard, we are Champions and hopefully next season it will be easier. I also want to show better performances in the European games. I know when I play, the fans always supported me and I’m really happy to be here, so I want to say thank you very much.

Despite almost leaving Celtic last summer to move to Birmingham City, he is now someone they will want to keep on the books. Locking him down to a long-term contract puts any negotiations in the Hoops’ hands should clubs come in for him, and no doubt they will.

He is keen to perform on the European stage, and he feels that it is an achievable goal at Parkhead. That should offer fans some hope, as they have often doubted the board’s ambition when it comes to competing in UEFA competitions. People at the club must have shown enough for him to be convinced, so supporters will be hoping that it’s a sign of things to come.
